Dr. Joy Foster, President of Sinkler Miller Medical Association came in to talk about the Sinkler Miller Medical Association which was formed to improve the health care of African-American and other minority people in the Bay Area, as well as retain African-American physicians within the area.

Her topic is: Alzheimer’s Disease: Diagnosing, Disclosure, & Treatment

Dr. Hargrave is a board certified geriatric psychiatrist at the Veteran’s Administration Martinez Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and consulting psychiatrist at the University of California, Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center. She is a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at University of California, Davis. She is the chair of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology committee on geriatric psychiatry certification.  She has been a prolific contributor to journals, magazines and books exploring neuropsychiatry, cross-cultural psychiatry and ethnic minority caregivers.  She founded www.ethnicelderscare.net, a website focused on ethnicity and dementia.

Dr. Langer is a professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto Hospital for Sick Children.  Having written 300 papers in peer reviewed journals and 70 book chapters on a variety of topics, Dr. Langer is considered an expert in Hirschsprung disease and pediatric surgery.

He travels internationally to both treat children and advance the field of pediatric surgery through teaching.  He is a past president of the Canadian Association of Pediatric Surgeons.  Dr. Langer has received many honors, including the Innovative Scientist of the Year award from the St. Louis Academy of Science and the James IV Travelling Fellowship.  He also was named one of the top 30 doctors in Toronto by Toronto Life Magazine.

Sinkler Miller Medical Association will host its 33rd annual scholarship benefit on Saturday October 22, 2016 at the Greek Ascencion Community Center in Oakland, California.  Our goal is to raise $100,000 to  apply for scholarships and programs to empower medical students, residents and nursing students to achieve their dreams.
